WebAntidepressants are effective in the treatment of depression but their use in the elderly merits special attention. In general, the tertiary amine tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs) tend to produce significant side-effects in the elderly. In contrast, nortriptyline, desipramine and lofepramine are better tolerated than other TCAs.
